Del 15 al 20 de junio, 9 alumnos y 2 profesores del I.E.S.Cantabria realizaron un viaje a Londres aprovechando el vuelo directo de RyanAir Santander-Londres.

Todas las actividades, tanto las programadas como las no programadas, se realizaron en inglés.

Nos alojamos en el alberge juvenil de Hampstead Heath, en el norte de Londres, donde los alumnos compartieron el lugar con mochileros y alumnos de todo el mundo, y pudieron probar un desayuno tradicional inglés en el jardin.

Cuatro días tan llenos de experiencias son difíciles de resumir pero vamos a intentarlo: Visitamos The National Gallery de arte, The British Museum, el museo de las ciencias, la Torre de Londres, la Noria de Londres, el cambio de la guardia, mientras andábamos por las calles desde Trafalgar Square hasta Picadilly, pasando por los parques o haciendo trasbordo en el metro.

En estos tiempos de consumo los alumnos pidieron que les dejaran libres para buscar ofertas, tanto en los comercios baratos (Camden Town market) como en los más caros (Harrods), incluyendo una visita a la tienda de juguetes Hamleys.

El tiempo, normalmente tan infernal de las islas, nos trató muy bien, sin una gota de lluvia, y al final de cada dia los alumnos completaban un cuaderno añadiendo sus aprendizajes y los folletos, fotos, billetes etc.

Desde quedarse con la boca abierta al ver la biblioteca del British Museum hasta los partidos nocturnos de poker con alumnos de Singapore, las experiencias del viaje son demasiadas para poderlas relatar aquí, pero puedes verlas en el cuaderno de algún alumno, si se lo pides...

From 15 June to 20 June 2006, 9 students and 2 teachers from the I.E.S.Cantabria bilingual project boarded the RyanAir flight from Santander to visit London.

All the activities, both programmed and unprogrammed(!), were undertaken in English.

Our accommodation was the Hampstead Heath Youth Hostel in North London where the students mingled with backpackers and other school groups from all over the world, while enjoying the chance to sample a full English breakfast in an English garden.

Four full days crammed with experiences are difficult to sum up in a few words but here goes…..
The National Gallery, The British Museum, The Science Museum, The Tower of London, The London Eye, The changing of the guard….while walking the streets from Trafalgar Square to Picadilly or changing lines on the London Underground.

It goes without saying that in this consumer age the students demanded to be let loose to find bargains either at the cheap end of the market (Camden Town market) or the top end (Harrods) with a visit to Hamley´s Toy shop in between.

The infamous British weather was more than kind to us with not a drop of rain and at the end of the day the students completed scrapbooks incorporating what they had learned in the museums along with photos, leaflets and tickets to describe their visit.

From the open mouths of the students when they walked into the British Museum library to the illicit nocturnal games of poker with school children from Singapore the memories of the trip are too many for this short summary, but if you ask one of them to show you their scrapbook………
